Blackpool International Airport’s drive to create a fire training centre of excellence for the Northwest has taken a step further with the introduction of in-depth workplace fire safety training courses. The average economic consequential cost of fire to a business in 2004 was £34,400 and employers now have a legal obligation to ensure their staff receive fire safety training and that fire precautions are in place within their premises. Blackpool International is offering businesses across Lancashire the opportunity to take a one day Fire Warden Training Course or a half day Fire Safety Course. Delegates will receive a comprehensive training package specifically designed for people working in locations such as industrial premises, hotels, offices, shops and residential care homes. The courses will be run by senior fire-fighters based at the airport. Blackpool Airport’s Chief Fire Officer Paul Galway commented: “Our courses are designed to tackle issues of prime importance such as human behaviour and the appropriate use of fire safety equipment. These are often not covered by other providers.” Courses can be arranged on a flexible and convenient basis.
