Robin Hood Airport has just celebrated its third birthday.

The airport, previously the RAF Finningley base, has handled 2.9 million passengers since opening in 2005 and has seen a 13% increase in passengers over the past 12 months.

Robin Hood Airport had just 17 destinations on offer when it opened and now offers flights to 30 destinations including Canada, Florida, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

Nick Smillie, Peel Airports Aviation Sales Director, who is based at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, commented: “The Airport is a tremendous asset for the region and the local economy. As an international gateway, it is key to attracting inward investment and tourism growth, as well as serving the needs of business and leisure travellers from the region.

To think that in just three years the Airport has gone from nothing to handling over 1 million passengers per year is a tremendous achievement. There are many airports across the UK that have been around for considerably longer than Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, and have still yet to reach such a milestone. Our objective now is to build on this success by delivering further growth, including more routes to popular international destinations.”
