Phil Redmond, Deputy Chair and Creative Director, Liverpool Culture Company unveiled the artwork of five local artists and 119 schoolchildren from three local schools to guests at a ceremony at JLA. The different pieces of artwork dotted around the public areas of the terminal include: mosaics from Debbie Ryan, a large image of Halewood by Barry Worrall and artwork from 50 schoolchildren at St Ambrose Primary School in Speke. At the beginning of the year, the airport worked alongside the Liverpool Culture Company and issued an ‘art call’ to local artists inviting them to display their work at the Airport. As a result of the many applications received, the airport has formed an Art Panel to review all the submissions and make a selection. The work will be on display until the end of the year; however this Project is the start of a rolling programme which will continue to showcase new exhibits throughout next year. The new collection of local art complements the current display of photography and art displayed in and around the terminal building known as ‘Collection ’08. The Collection offers passengers and visitors something different to look at whilst they’re either waiting to collect family or waiting to fly out. Post a comment
