First Flight for New £40m Runway

The new extended runway at Birmingham Airport has been used, finally, after years of planning and building works.

A China Southern Airlines flight, flying to Beijing, successfully took off yesterday utilising the additional 400m extension – the only UK –China service in the UK outside of London.

The airport hope that the longer runway will allow for more long-haul destinations, as it hopes to bring even greater choice to passengers flying from the regional airport.

The China Southern Airlines service is already proving extremely popular, with high demand from Chinese visitors who are keen to explore picturesque areas such as the Cotswolds and the Lake District.
