Blackpool International has announced the arrival of Aer Arann to provide service on the popular and successful Dublin route.

Aer Arann will commence services direct from Blackpool International to Dublin on Monday 5 January 2009.  This route is one of the most popular and successful services that operates from the airport and is great news for the airport and all its passengers following the announcement that Ryanair will withdraw from the airport on 5 January.

Aer Arran’s first flight will depart on Monday 5 January, 2009.  A special introductory fare is offered on the service of £29.99 one way inclusive of taxes.

David Kershaw, Chief Executive at Blackpool International, said: “We are delighted to be able to announce the arrival of Aer Arann to Blackpool.  We are very pleased that Aer Arann is keen to work in partnership with the airport to develop new routes here.  The Dublin route is popular throughout the year and we have worked very hard to secure a replacement for the service to Dublin.

Sue Kendrick, Communications Manager at the airport, commented: “This is really great news for Blackpool International and all our passengers.  With the introduction of Free Passenger Parking at the airport and the ADF, we are confident that we can develop the airport’s infrastructure and, importantly, make it even more attractive to many more passengers from across Lancashire and the Lake District.  This in turn will enable us to grow into new markets, offering more services to more destinations.

“We know we can’t do this without the backing of all our passengers and airlines however, and we greatly appreciate their continued support for the future.”

Further new route announcements are expected.

Pity that any Irish citizens coming to Blackpool and flying back to Dublin (and therefore won’t have a car to use this “free” parking), including the elderly, groups coming over for stag/hen do’s etc, are going to be shafted like the rest of us with this £10 charge. Doncaster should hand over the title of “Robin Hood Airport” to Blackpool. Use another airport and vote with your feet!!
