Ryanair flights between Bournemouth and Wroclaw are set to return next summer.

The airline has announced that it will operate twice-weekly flights (Mondays and Fridays) to Wroclaw from 30 March 2012.

For the year to date, London Oxford Airport increased the number of average daily business aviation departures by 12.2%, year-on-year up to September 2011 according to the latest statistics released by Eurocontrol.

In the Eurocontrol report, London Oxford Airport ranks fifth in the UK with an average 7.8 daily business aviation departures, up from an average 6.9 last year, which represents a growth of 12.2% over the past year.  Ahead of Oxford were London Luton (34.2 daily departures) Farnborough Airport (27.5) Biggin Hill (14.5) and London City Airport (8.9).  A marked slide by London Stansted positioned it in 8th place behind East Midlands and Bournemouth airports.

Blue Islands, the Channel Islands based airline, is expanding its operations at Jersey Airport with a new service to Bournemouth.

Bournemouth to Jersey flights will commence on 1 November 2011 and offer connections to Guernsey.

The year-round service will operate three times per week, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and is the ninth destination offered by Blue Islands from Jersey.

If you’re travelling to Bournemouth Airport from September 2011, watch out for roadworks on the A31 at Canford Bottom roundabout.

Road improvements start in September 2011 and will continue until May 2012.

Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journey.

From changing a light bulb on the runway to fixing solar panels onto a HIV clinic in rural Uganda, this could become reality for staff at Manchester Airport.

Employee’s skills are being sought to help transform lives of children with life-threatening illnesses and disabilities as the airport’s parent company MAG has today announced its three-year support of Medcare, a UK charity that runs the Wellspring Children’s Medical Centre in rural Uganda.

Staff with practical skills from electricians to architects will have the chance to provide on-the ground support in Uganda at Wellspring and apply their skills in building a HIV/AIDS unit and a centre for disabled children.

MAG has never adopted a Group-wide charity before and a key reason it selected Medcare is because their support will transform the charity’s ability to help so many children.

Charlie Cornish, MAG’s Chief Executive, said: “We do tremendous work in our local communities and support brilliant local charities. But we’ve never had something that colleagues and business partners can get behind together, by applying a combination of fundraising and first-World skills in the third World which can really change lives. I am confident that our work will make an unfathomable difference to people who need help. Medcare is a relatively new, successful charity but is keen to raise its game and increase its impact. The parallel with MAG’s evolution makes Medcare the perfect partner for us.”

Russell Craig, MAG’s Head of External Communcations, is leading the project and the first major development that funds are needed for is to expand the Wellspring Children’s Medical Centre in Kamutuuza, Uganda. The first part opened in 2008 and provides general health care, vaccinations, and acute malaria care to some of the most vulnerable children in Africa, together with sponsorship of children with HIV/AIDS and those with disabilities. Since then it has successfully treated over 20,000 children.

Pauline Hutchinson, Medcare Founder, said: “I am so delighted that MAG has agreed to help and support Medcare. I know that just a small contribution can go a long way and change lives. I am confident that having MAG involved for three years will mean a huge difference to the lives of the children we look after at Wellspring.”

The new arrivals hall at Bournemouth Airport has opened to the public.

Believed to be the first carbon-neutral airport building in Europe, the building has a wide range of energy efficient measures installed, including 323 photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps, passive lighting and ventilation, plus a computerised system to control the heating, lighting and cooling.

Rob Goldsmith, Managing Director commented: “Opening the new arrivals hall marks a significant step forward in our redevelopment programme, and will also play a major part in helping us achieve our target of being carbon neutral for our ground operations by 2012.”

From Thursday, 14 April, drivers wishing to drop off or pick up passengers at Bournemouth Airport will have to pay for the privilege.

Currently, vehicles are not charged for the first ten minutes of parking and are charged for stays of 10 to 30 minutes, however, from Thursday, a charge of £2.50 will be made for all stays up to 30 minutes.

Most of the airports, including Gatwick and Heathrow Airports, that had cancelled all flights have now reopened, however all UK airport are suffering from delays.

Heathrow is running a limited service – they have changed their estimated service now until at least 6am on Christmas Eve, although flights are now operating 24 hours a day to help clear the backlog.

Advice is to call the airline you are travelling with before heading to the airport.

Bournemouth Airport has been dealt another blow this month as Flybe is the latest airline to pull out of service at the South East airport.

Flybe operated a single daily flight to Manchester however it has been dropped, in line with its 2010/11 winter schedule, which commences later this month. This is despite the fact that the Manchester route is the most popular UK destination, as requested, by Bournemouth Airport passengers.

Local businesses are hoping that another airline will operate a Bournemouth – Manchester route, but an early morning flight, as the current Flybe flight leaves at midday, which is not seen as conducive to a business working day by many.
