Following the Manchester Airports Group’s (MAG) decision to review its stake in Humberside Airport, it has appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) to act on its behalf. PWC will consider all options for the long-term future of Humberside Airport including a possible transfer of ownership. The review began in April. The UK’s second largest airport operator, Manchester Airports Group (MAG), is to review its investment in Humberside Airport. MAG, which also owns Manchester Airport, East Midlands Airport and Bournemouth Airport, has an 82.7% majority stake in the airport but has revealed that a possible transfer of ownership should be considered for the best long-term future of the airport. Humberside Airport handles in the region of 500,000 passengers per year with a core catchment area of more than one million people living within 45 minutes of the airport. MAG, which is publicly by the ten local authorities of Greater Manchester, bought its stake in Humberside Airport in 1999 for £10 million investing nearly £7 million to improve and develop the airport’s infrastructure. It is now possible to travel from Humberside airport with more than one piece of hand luggage after the Department of Transport approved the new security arrangements at the airport. However, some airlines still maintain the one-bag rule and passengers should check their airline’s policy prior to travel. Rob Goldsmith, Managing Director of Humberside Airport said: “We are delighted to receive approval from the Department for Transport for the new security rules. However, as some airlines may still retain the one-bag rule, we strongly suggest you check with your airline on the cabin baggage arrangements for your particular journey. And passengers should also remember that restrictions on liquids they carry in hand baggage are still in force.” For further information about Humberside airport and to book Humberside airport parking click on the links. The one bag limit for hand luggage introduced in 2006 looks set to be lifted in the New Year. From 7 January UK airports can apply to the Department of Transport for permission to allow more than one item of cabin baggage per passenger. However, the airport will need to demonstrate that they have sufficient screening to cope with the extra bags. Strict rules will remain in place on the transport of liquids in hand luggage. Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly, commenting on the announcement, said the one bag limit was intended to be a temporary arrangement.
