Wizz Air has launched web check-in. The new service is being initially introduced for flights departing from Budapest and will be extended gradually to flights from all airports by Spring 2010.

Web check-in is available at wizzair.com from seven days up to three hours before the scheduled departure time of the flight. The new service does not impact on the rest of the boarding procedure: passengers are requested to present themselves at the boarding gate no later than 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time of the flight.

“We are delighted to present this service enhancement to our passengers. Online check-in makes the process more convenient and efficient both for the passengers as well as the airline. All passengers have to do is to print their own boarding pass at home and present it directly at the gate or at the check-in desks, if they travel with luggage. We encourage our passengers to benefit from this service as it becomes available at their airport.” – said György Abrán, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air. He expects high conversion rate immediately, as 40% of Wizz Air’s passengers carry only hand luggage.

Routes to Dortmund, Paris Beauvais and Oslo will be opened already as of 17 December 2009. The rest of the new routes will start from 17 July 2010.

“Wroclaw will become our fifth base in Poland, reinforcing our commitment to the largest market in Wizz Air’s network as well as our leadership on the Polish market. With this move we will further enhance the travel opportunities for millions of Poles in the West of the country, create hundreds of local jobs and significant revenue uplift for the tourism industry in the region.” – said John Stephenson, Executive Vice-President of Wizz Air.

Ryanair has issued a reminder to all passengers that, from Thursday 1 October 2009, a driver’s licence will no longer be a valid form of identification.

Passengers will be required to bring their passport or a government issued National Identity Card (issued solely for identification) to the airport.

Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said: “Ryanair passengers must ensure that they have a valid form of identification to travel on Ryanair flights. Ryanair has moved to simplify our identification policy to avoid passenger confusion and from 1st October all Ryanair passengers must hold a valid passport or a valid National Identity Card issued by the government of a European Economic Area (EEA) country.

“Passengers arriving at an airport with a driver’s licence or any other forms of non-valid identification will be unable to travel on Ryanair flights.”
