Durham Tees Valley Airport was evacuated yesterday after a mechanical digger ruptured a gas main behind a neighbouring hotel the Evening Gazette reports.

Fire crews were called to the scene and an inbound flight from Dublin, which was allowed to land, was unable to let passengers disembark during the alert.

The alert happened at noon yesterday and the terminal reopened at 2.45 pm.
