Edinburgh city planners have warned that an additional 1500 hotel rooms are needed if Edinburgh airport is to cope with the expected rise in air passenger numbers travelling through the airport.

Owned by BAA, Edinburgh airport is Scotland’s second busiest airport handling more than 8.8 million passengers per year and expected to reach in the region of 13 million by 2013 and 23 million by 2030.

550 extra hotel rooms at Edinburgh airport will be needed by 2010, a further 1000 by 2013 and 2100 more by 2030, according to a report due to go before the city’s planning committee on Thursday.
