A controversial new fee has been introduced this week at Edinburgh Airport. The Scottish airport is being dammed as ‘money grabbing’ as it imposes charges for vehicle drop off as friends and family drop off passengers flying from and to Edinburgh Airport.

The charges of £1 for 10 minutes will be introduced to all vehicles using the covered drop off area, less than one minute from the terminal building.

For vehicles arriving early, or for passengers who have been delayed, and as such result in the vehicles being in the pull-in bays for longer than 10 minutes, drivers will be charged£5 for up to 20 minutes, and £7 for up to an hour after the 20 minutes has passed.

Disabled blue badge holders will have free parking for the first 15 minutes.

There are currently 52 pull-in bays at Edinburgh Airport.

Airport executives say that the money raised will be ploughed into community and environmental projects around the airport.
