The EU referendum result is expected to massively impact the Government’s decision over the South East’s airport expansion.
Already delayed from the end of last year, the decision was expected this summer.
However, with Britain voting to leave the EU, and David Cameron’s immediate resignation, the decision is expected to be delayed.
Now the decision will be in the hands of a new Prime Minister. Conservative members have very mixed views over the expansion – Gatwick and Heathrow have been going head to head in a battle of which airport will be expanded. Some Tory MPs are pro Heathrow, others very much against it.
This will see the Airport Commission’s recommendation of Heathrow for expansion of a third runway thrown in up in the air and Gatwick, as a spokesperson last week said, leaving them “very much back in the game”.
