In the National Transport Awards, Glasgow Airport has been named UK Airport of the Year.
Glasgow has beat off stiff competition, including Scottish rival, Edinburgh Airport, as well as Birmingham, London City, Luton, Southend and Stansted.
Despite Glasgow not seeing as much passenger traffic as its rival, Edinburgh, the judges recognised the vast improvements the airport had made. Including its upgraded terminal as part of its £20 million development budget; and the commitment airlines were showing in the airport which includes 20 new routes being secured.
What’s more, passenger numbers were up by 11% this calendar year, which equates to 8.4 million passengers using the airport.
Speaking about the prestigious award win, Managing Director, Amanda McMillan said, “To have been named both Scottish and UK Airport of the Year is a tremendous honour and it is an achievement the 5,000 people who work at Glasgow Airport can be proud of.”
