Emirates celebrated its 25th anniversary at Heathrow last week.
The airline first launched its first service on 30th June 1991, flying three times a week between UK’s largest and busiest airport, Heathrow to Dubai. Today, the airline operates a service six times a day between the two airports, on the iconic Airbus A380.
In that 25 years the airline has carried over 20 million passengers, carried almost 800,000 tonnes of cargo, mail and courier materials – from luxury cars to pharmaceuticals; and served over 900,000 in-flight meals this year alone!
In the last year alone, Emirates has flown 15 million passengers through Heathrow – a figure that equates to 18% of London’s population. What’s more, adding to the local economy, the airline settles crew in 162 local hotels every night – that’s 60,000 rooms each year!
Speaking about the anniversary, Laurie Berryman, Emirates Vice President, UK, said “We launched our first service to Heathrow in 1991 and since then demand for travel from London to Dubai and beyond has seen tremendous growth. In the last 25 years we have carried over 20 million passengers on the route.
