Wow, I picked the right week to have a break and not fly from Heathrow!

Just goes to show, you can spend billions, £4.3 billion to be precise, on a state-of-the-art airport terminal but if you haven’t got the basics right (baggage system and staff training) it just isn’t going to work.

It’s now five days since the launch of Heathrow Terminal 5 and flights are still being cancelled – 54 today – with more delays or cancellations are expected tomorrow.

Passengers flying from Terminal 5 should call 0800 727 800 or check BA’s website www.ba.com for further information.

All flights from other Heathrow terminals are operating normally.

Nearly 250 flights have been cancelled since the opening of T5 and BA drafted in an extra 400 staff to cope with the backlog of baggage, some 15,000 items.

If you’ve delayed, damaged or lost luggage after travelling through T5 contact British Airways at http://www.britishairways.com/travel/baggen/public/en_gb
