Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) is gearing up for its busiest day of the year so far, as die-hard Liverpool FC football fans head out to Basel.
The Europa League Final, next Wednesday, will see around 2,700 lovers of the game, jet out of the airport, in addition to LJLA’s usual May travellers.
14 dedicated football fan flights are running, with fans leaving from 6am in the morning; all of which are set to have departed by 9.25am!
Preparing for the influx in passengers, LJLA’s Management have worked hard to assist fans getting to the finals ever since the Premier football team made it into the semi-finals. Additional staff, equipment and volunteers have all been drafted in to help with the increase in passengers.
As a result however, all passengers are being advised to allow plenty of time to pass through the airport as the airport will be substantially busier than usual for this time of year. Passengers should arrive at least 2-3 hours before departure.
What’s more, passengers, to keep security queues to a minimum, are reminded to carefully pack hand luggage, taking note of the strict items forbidden.
Airport Operations Director Colin Swaine commented, “We are putting lots of plans in place to make sure fans heading over to Basel can take advantage of the convenience of flying from their local airport and we expect there to be a great atmosphere here on Wednesday morning.
The Airport will be very busy however and we ask that fans and the thousands of passengers also departing from Liverpool to destinations elsewhere across Europe and the UK, allow plenty of time to pass through the Airport and for their patience as we look to process them through the terminal as quickly as possible.”
