Christmas came early for some lucky children at Alder Hey Hospital this week…
… that’s because Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Ryanair joined forces to put on a magical Christmas experience, along with a 40 minutes flight.
As its fundraising partner, the airport wanted to pull out all the stops to celebrate the next 12 months of charity work it will carry out for the leading children’s hospital, as it plans to raise over £100,000.
One of the airport’s hangers was transformed into a Christmas grotto, along with a variety of festive and fun entertainment, with many games to play and prizes to win; kindly donated by Liverpool based retailer Matalan, as did Everton FC that were given to each child before boarding their flight.
And no Christmas experience would be complete without a visit from the big man himself, oh yes, Santa put in an appearance too!
Ryanair, keen to support such a worthy cause, donated one of its Boeing Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Dublin to Liverpool and made it available for the Airport to take a number of young patients and their families on a pleasure flight, flying towards the Isle of Man and back.
In addition, bus operator Arriva, kindly helped out too by taking visiting Ryanair employees and their families who travelled over on the flight from Dublin into the City Centre for a Christmas day out in Liverpool, which included a visit to the DreamWorks Lights Lantern Experience at St George’s Hall.
