Changes to the drop-off and pick-up arrangements coupled with rip off parking charges are putting air travellers off flying from Liverpool John Lennon airport.

In an email to Liverpool airport information site, A L* from the Wirral states:

“I just want to say how disgusting the drop off and pick up arrangements are.If you are dropping off elderly or disabled people 10 minutes is barely enough to off-load luggage and get back out of the car park, so effectively we have to pay a surcharge for bringing the airport customers.

“A lot of Wirral taxi drivers now refuse to bring passengers to Liverpool Airport (ring a few airport services if you don’t believe me). That’s how we ended up taking some friends there at 3am, with no real traffic or anything, but still we had to be out of the car park in 10 minutes, and that includes finding a parking space! People should be given at least 30 minutes.

“We are picking our friends up tomorrow, and are having to park on a street somewhere nearby – they will then ring their family on a call box to say they are ready, and the family then ring my mobile. Our friends will have to stand and wait about 15 minutes whilst we make our round-about route to the airport (whatever happened to the easy way to get there).

“Are you surprised that they, and we, will avoid Liverpool airport like the plague if we can.Even with all of this inconvenience, if it is difficult to park (as it may be in the daytime) or if there is a queue to leave the airport we could still end up having to pay. It’s disgraceful.”

Have you experienced problems dropping off passengers at Liverpool airport or any other UK airport? Are the parking charges fair? We’d love to hear from you.

I think it’s a disgrace also. Picked someone up last night at 11pm and had no choice but to drive through the car parking barriers and get a ticket to just simply drive back out after quickly putting money in to get out again. No ability to turn around once you’re in there with other traffic behind you as you’re herded in to be robbed. This is tantamount to highway robbery as I didn’t even park so in effect I had to pay to drive through the airport. Next time I will park on the road and I’m sure the next move will be wardens along the routes into the airport so that the council can get in on the act. No doubt there will be police there to oversee this, which will take them off more important policing.
The trouble with this country now is that we are allowing our pockets to be picked. It stinks.
