In this year’s Which Travel? airport report, Luton has missed out to neighbouring airport, Southend.
From the five categories airports were rated on, Southend Airport was awarded five out of five stars in four of them. It was praised on its security queues, the cleanliness of its toilets and the choice and quality of its retail shopping centre and food hall.
Compare this to Luton’s mix of one and two stars across the five different categories, the independent consumer watchdog, Which Travel? advises passengers to fly out of Southend instead.
In a comment to support its advice, Which Travel? said, “Luton Airport may be 14 times bigger, but that’s no excuse for such a poor customer experience,” said Which Travel? “easyJet serves both airports, so consider Southend for a cheap and considerably more cheerful trip.”
The downside to Southend however is that as a smaller airport its size is reflected in the number of destinations it is able to offer passengers – just 16 compared to Luton’s 130.
