The exciting new non-stop flights between Newcastle and New York have taken off.
The service is Newcastle’s first scheduled non stop trans-Atlantic route.
Operating five times a week, flying every day except Wednesdays and Thursdays, the service will depart Newcastle at 9.10am, arriving in New York at 12pm the same day. Whilst the return service will depart Newark Airport at 7.20pm, arriving back in Newcastle at 7.30am.
Running as part of a trial, United Airlines are operating the direct service until September.
If successful the New York service will be instated as a permanent fixture at Newcastle Airport.
Speaking about the new service, Councillor, Iain Malcolm, and leader of LA7, the consortium group who own Newcastle Airport, said, “The route marks an important milestone for the North East and will further enhance regional connectivity, grow the regional economy, attract inward investment and encourage tourism.”
