A charity show at Prestwick Airport on Wednesday, 3 March 2010, will mark the fiftieth anniversary of Elvis Presley’s only UK visit. The ‘King’, aka Sergeant Presley, stopped off at Prestwick Airport – then a US Air Force base – on 3 March 1960 for a brief re-fuelling stop on his way home from two years’ military service. Wednesday’s 16-hour charity show will take place in the terminal building at Prestwick Airport and will be sponsored by Prestwick Airport, South Ayrshire Council, West FM, Spirit AeroSystems, Zisys Events and Diva Music. All money raised will go to Ayrshire children’s charity Clic Sergeant. Timings for the day: 9.40am, “Elvis” – in Sergeant’s uniform – will land at Prestwick on Ryanair flight FR407 from London Stansted 3.10pm, the “Best Dressed Elvis” Prize Draw will take place along with a special plaque unveiling to commemorate his visit.
