VLM Airlines has launched its daily schedule flights from Southampton to Antwerp and Hamburg.
The inaugural flight, which flies every day to Antwerp, then onwards to Hamburg, was greeted by a water arch entrance; watch by a VIP audience, including The Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Sue Blatchford.
As the diamond capital of the world, guests were treated to a diamond themed reception to celebrate the new Antwerp/Hamburg route.
The Antwerp flight will appeal to tourists thanks to the country’s beautiful landscapes and architecture. Whilst Hamburg is a rising business centre, particularly in the petrochemical industry, it will appeal to both business travellers and leisure holiday makers.
Speaking about the new service, Dave Lees, Managing Director of Southampton Airport, said, “Not only does this new route suit many businesses in the area and locals wanting to visit these two beautiful cities, the new flights are perfect for those in Germany and Belgium starting cruises from Southampton, which is the cruise capital for northern Europe.”
Whilst, Arthur White, CEO of VLM Airlines, added: “Southampton is a great destination for travellers involved in the maritime industry. Additionally the leisure and tourism opportunities make this a really good fit for our network of linking the major ports of Europe.”
