easyJet has announced it is to axe its service between Southend and Berlin.
The service is not economically viable, with limited demand seen by passengers, particularly on its return service from Berlin into Southend.
The flights will stop on 26th February 2016.
However, the airline has said that new routes will be added from Southend Airport.
Speaking about the decision by easyJet, Interim Managing Director of Southend Airport, Jon Horne, told The Echo, “While it is disappointing to lose the Berlin service, the commercial decision on routes rests with the airline and we totally understand EasyJet’s reasons for doing this.
Having a strong and commercially successful operation is the most important outcome as this will ensure the greatest likelihood of new destinations from Southend and future growth. We look forward to announcing what exciting destination will be replacing Berlin in the hopefully near future.”
