Jet2.com, one of Europe’s leading low cost airlines and package holiday providers, has flown into Stansted Airport.
The airport will become Jet2.com’s ninth UK base, and the first in the South of England.
Creating 250 jobs in the airport alone, the airline is set to give competitor carrier, Ryanair, who also operates out of Stansted and is currently the airport’s largest carrier, a run for its money as it offers passengers a choice of 21 European destinations, including holiday hotspot favourites such as Alicante, Faro, Ibiza, Malaga and Majorca. This is a major boost for the airport as local passengers want to fly from more regional airports than the major hubs in the region, Heathrow and Gatwick.
Jet2.com’s Chief Executive, Steve Heapy, said, “Because of our family-friendly ethos, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have enjoyed years of success and growth in northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We think that we have a product that people in the south of England and the east of England want. We’re offering routes from London Stansted Airport which we think are underserved. We’re offering a flight-only product and also our package-holiday product, which we think is definitely underserved from Stansted Airport.”
Needless to say, Stansted Airport is delighted to welcome the airline, and ATOL protected package holiday provider, with Chief Executive, Andrew Cowan saying that the additional by Jet2.com showed a ‘vote of confidence’.
